What is DVD?

DVD, which stands for Digital Versatile Disk, is the next generation of optical disc storage technology that is vastly superior to videotape. It’s essentially a bigger, faster CD that can hold over 2 hours of high quality video and surround sound audio, or over 7 hours of CD quality audio, or over 20,000 novels or well over 100,000 high quality still images. DVD aims to  encompass home entertainment, computers and business information with a single digital format, eventually replacing audio CD, videotape, laser disc, CD-ROM, and perhaps even video tape cartridges.

DVD has widespread support from all major electronics companies, all major computer hardware companies and all major movie and music studios. With unprecedented support, DVD has become the must successful consumer electronic product of all times in less than three years of its introduction. As of October 12, 2000, 10 million DVD players have been sold in United States, according to “Technicolor” the number of PCs equipped with DVD-ROM drives will reach more than 130 million units worldwide by the end of 2001.

What is DVD technology?
DVD is rapidly becoming the standard format for home video, and for good reason! VHS cassettes will begin to degrade after 10 to 12 years which means your pictures and memories begin to deteriorate. Unfortunately this could result in a loss of valuable memories you had hoped to be able maintain at least for your lifetime! DVD on the other hand is designed to last 100 years, the quality of digital picture and sound are far superior to VHS, once you have experienced the difference it is hard to go back.  In addition to the conversion of VHS tapes, we also have the ability to record from mini DV, Hi8 and SVHS tapes into DVD format. This process can also combine streaming video with your still pictures (photographs).  As an added benefit your DVD can be designed through the advanced Authoring process, this creates customized menu screens for ease of navigation using your DVD’s player remote control. You must keep in mind, the quality of our product will be determined by the current condition of your tape. We can’t restore a bad tape but we can safeguard what is left and prevent any further deterioration. The sooner we start the process the better condition your memories will be in ready to share for years to come.
Business applications for today and tomorrow…
DVD technology has been embraced by the business world. In addition to its long retention period, video stream can be combined with still photos, which can then be converted into a slide show. Another tremendous  timesaving feature is the Authoring process where selections are accessed through the DVD’s player remote control this is beneficial to a diversity of businesses and professionals. With this new medium, your material is maintained for your relevancy instead of the limited lifetime of the VHS cassette.
